Funeral for Susan Millard — Members of the congregation will be saddened to learn of the death of Susan Millard, who for years was head usher and Sunday greeter. Susan was the victim of a car-pedestrian accident in Halifax earlier this week. The congregation and choir, her friends and family will celebrate her life at a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 29 at 2 pm. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Jan. 27: Introducing the United Church — If you are interested in conversation with others about faith, the church, and the United Church, you are invited to attend a “four Thursdays” discussion group that will be led by Rev. Betsy Hogan. The first session is this Thursday (Jan. 27) at 7:30 pm at St. Matthew’s.

Jan. 30: Special guests Ardyth and Jennifer — Celtic harpists Ardyth and Jennifer will provide special music at 10:30 am on Sunday, Jan. 30 as we celebrate the Celtic Christian Festival of Imbolc. This ancient tradition observes the time that is midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Our theme will be “Spring Rising and St. Matthew’s Rising”, and the congregation will love singing along with the last hymn, featuring soprano Karla Bruce.

Summer Art and Photography Exhibition — Building on the success of last year’s show, St. Matthew’s plans to host another art exhibition this summer. It is hoped to add a photography exhibit and sale in the Sunday school rooms to replace flowers. If you are interested in joining the Festival Committee to coordinate the photo exhibition, please contact Johan Geldenhuys, 429-4973; johan@jgeldenhuys.com. This was a most successful fundraiser for St. Matthew’s last year.
