The church office has resumed its regular operating hours – Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.

New Year’s Day Levee
St. Matthew’s hosted a mighty fine levee in the Sanctuary on New Year’s Day.
Rev. Betsy Hogan, who shook hands and said “Welcome to St. Matthew’s” to all the levee-goers, estimates that 150 people attended the event, including a visitor newly arrived from Nigeria who left wearing a nice new pair of warm gloves.
Her summary of the event: “The morning proved to be sort of the ultimate St. Matthew's experience: there were the usual suspects, there were kilts, there were important-looking men in regalia, folks from the neighbourhood, children eating too many cookies, passers-by who saw something was going on and dared to cross the threshold, plus the fellow whose delusions were vivid but who was awfully glad to have a hot cup of coffee!”
Kudos to John, Brenda, Craig and Elizabeth Wallace; Gayle and Craig Reiner; Marg Machum, Shirley McInnes, Betsy Hogan, Wayne Rogers, and everyone else who helped offer visitors a warm welcome. It took a lot of extra work to set up in the sanctuary plus provide an impressive spread of good treats, but it was very successful. Thanks to all.

Potluck Church
Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 pm for Potluck Church. This month’s theme is Tis a Gift: Environmental Awareness, led by Marg Machum. The food is always good and the fellowship is truly wonderful – plan to attend and to bring some food to share.

Are you on Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) ?
Pre-authorized remittance, or PAR, is a direct debit program that allows you to make regular contributions to St. Matthew’s directly from your bank account. Just as you might allow automatic debits to pay for insurance, taxes, fuel, or a mortgage, PAR makes it easy to donate to the church on a regular, scheduled basis throughout the year. Many in the congregation make weekly or monthly donations this way instead of placing money in the offering plate each Sunday. For more information or to set yourself up on PAR, contact the church office.

If you are already on PAR, is it time to increase your donation level?
PAR makes it so easy to support the church that we can forget the increasing costs of administration, maintenance, and outreach. Please review your PAR givings and consider whether you can increase your level of support for the good work St. Matthew’s does in the community. In particular, if you participated in the Anonymous Couple challenge, please consider raising your PAR contribution by that little bit extra.
Changing your level of PAR givings is easy: just call the church office, 423-9209.
