Yoga classes at St. Matt’s start tomorrow
Atlantic School of Theology student Jenny MacDougall is offering a yoga program this fall/winter at St. Matthew’s. The first session is Wed. Sept. 19 (tomorrow!) and it will run until Dec. 5. Perfect for beginner students or for intermediate yoga students who want to invigorate their lunch hour. All levels of fitness are welcome – you will work within your own comfort zone. Bring a yoga mat and block if possible (there will be spares). Class fees are on a sliding scale, up to $10 per class based on income and pay-what-you-can confidential policy for the unwaged or under-waged, so don’t let money prevent you from participating. There is also a reduced-cost punch card available for 10 classes ($85). A portion of each participant’s fee will be donated to St. Matthew’s. Meet in the spirit of communion, clarity and thanksgiving. For information contact Jenny at tax.asana@hotmail.com or 407-5042.

Women’s Breakfast Sept. 22
You’re invited to Smitty’s (Tower/Martello and Spring Garden Road) on Saturday at 8:30 am for breakfast. Choose what you like from the menu, and enjoy good conversation and lots of coffee. No cooking or washing up! This is a nice opportunity to get to know other women from the congregation.

SmartCycle Lunch and Learn next week
Do you bike to work downtown, or have friends who do? There will be a free SmartCycle lunch-and-learn on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 12 noon at St. Matthew's.

SmartCycle is a workshop designed to show cyclists how to prevent spills, increase safety in traffic, and make the ride to work safer and more comfortable. Focusing on recreational and utilitarian use of the bicycle and taught by nationally-certified CAN-BIKE instructors, SmartCycle teaches about
• how to make yourself visible and predictable
• what’s new in the Motor Vehicle Act
• crash avoidance
• traffic dynamics
• ABC quick check on bicycles
• helmet and bike fit
• common motorist and cyclist errors

Participants will get snacks and a safety information package, including the HRM Bicycle Routes and Trails Map. Bring your bike and lunch, and enjoy this free session taught by Sandra Bennett. The session is sponsored by SmartTrip Active Commute and Halifax Regional Municipality. To help with snack planning, please send an email to stmatts.betsy@ns.sympatico.ca if you plan to attend.
Please forward this to anyone you think will be interested. This will be St. Matthew’s first Lunch and Learn session, and we’d like it to be a success.

New carpet, hallelujah!
There is new carpet in the downstairs entranceway to the church hall. Thanks to Dale MacLennan, Craig and Matthew Reiner, and Laura Stiles-Clarke for tearing out the old carpet to make way for the new. The foyer is much more inviting.
