88 Keys fundraising campaign for the grand piano
In June, wouldn’t it be great to celebrate the first anniversary of our Yamaha grand piano by paying off its $10,300 debt? To that end, a mini fundraising campaign is underway.

Much of the $48,300 purchase price was covered by the Allen McKenzie Reid music fund ($20,000) and the Jim Holland music fund ($10,000). In addition, over the last 11 months there have been five fundraising concerts, and several individuals have made donations.

As the first anniversary approaches, members and friends of St. Matthew’s are invited to participate in the 88 Keys Campaign and retire the piano debt. Letters were distributed/mailed to everyone this week explaining the campaign and asking for support. One key is $100 and a full scale is $1,000, but all donations will be gratefully received. Cheques indicating “Piano Fund” can be made payable to St. Matthew’s United Church. Tax receipts will be issued at the end of 2013. For information, contact Jill Rafuse at rafuse@ns.sympatico.ca

Photo directory reminder
More than 100 people have already provided a big smile for the photographer, but there is room for more faces. We’d like to have as many people as possible included in the church photo directory. Send an email to Tim Covert c/o the church office, stmatts@ns.sympatico.ca  to make an appointment, or provide your own photo if you prefer.

  • Linda Burke, who joined our congregation by transfer of membership on Sunday.

Congratulations to ...

  • The Lunch Bunch, Acabella Handbell Choir and Terry Hurrell, whose fundraising concert last week raised more than $2,000 – an exceptional accomplishment! Wayne Rogers said that for six members of the Lunch Bunch Choir, it was the first time they had ever been in a choral concert, and they had a wonderful time!
