Funeral Saturday for Donna Salter

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Matthew's for the late Donna Salter, who died at the end of March after a prolonged illness. Donna was the sister of Dale MacLennan of our congregation, and daughter of the late Bill and Georgie MacLennan.

Congratulations to …

  • Matthew Fraser, winner of the trophy presented by the Halifax Chapter of the Royal Canadian College of Organists for organ performance in competition at the Kiwanis Music Festival. Matthew is taught by Wayne Rogers, and is our student organist. Matthew also is to be commended for being named Head Boy at Halifax Grammar School for 2019-20, his senior and final year.
  • Craig Wallace, who provides weekly tech support for our Sunday worship services, graduating from St. Mary's University next week with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

 Thanks to …

  • All those who provide transportation, companionship, and other caregiving assistance to members of our congregation who need some special attention so that they can attend services.
  • All who made sandwiches for the Out of the Cold Shelter this past year. Your interest and cooperation was very much appreciated. We have provided Thursday sandwiches for 8 years and hopefully, under Jean Hattie's excellent coordination, we will be able to continue this outreach in the fall.

St. Matthew's Book Club

The Book Club meets on Tue. May 22 at 2 pm at 5662 Roberts St. The book topic is "The Summer Before the War" by Helen Simonson. Goodreads calls it "… a breathtaking novel of love and war that reaches far beyond the small English town in which it is set." For more information contact Elaine Murray, edamur50@gmail.com

Successful fundraising concert for Nigerian flutist

Thanks to all who either attended and/or supported the fundraising concert for Nigerian flute student Ogo-Oluwa Sobukola at St. Matthew's. There was an appreciative audience of about 70, and about $3,000 was raised.

Bluenose Marathon June 9 this year

Waiting for the annual warning about needing extra time to get to the church during Bluenose Marathon weekend?  In past years the Marathon has coincided with the Victoria Day long weekend, but not this year! The Marathon is scheduled for Sunday June 9 – and there will be church, but no Sunday school that day.
